Thanks for dropping by!
I have always liked Richard Simmons’ approach to weight loss. Nothing too drastic in the exercise department and something that will lift your mood.
Great combination!
Richard has always been very inspiring to me… and he always brings a smile. I usually feel guilty sitting still when I watch him… it’s like I should be up and moving.
Richard Simmons…oh God, that takes me back many more years than I want to admit to. I like his positive attitude, and I used to do some of his exercise videos just because he could make me laugh.
Me too, Calypso! And he chose some great music for those oldies videos, too.
What was most inspriring, I think, is that he chose *real* people to be on the videos… not 105 pound aerobic instructors.
That’s exactly right, Katharina! I did like the fact that he had normal people on his tapes. I get discouraged when I see nothing but perfectly toned bodies everywhere I look…I think, “Well, I’m never going to look like THAT, so I might as well give it up right now.”
My favorite part of those movies back then was the end when they showed how much weight those “real people” had lost. It was very inspiring.
Hey, I still have a VHS player… maybe I should dig those videos out again.
SageMother, what I really love about him is that he takes the fun approach to losing weight.
He is not condescending and works on promoting that healthy weight loss can be so much fun.
Katharina, I think that is why he is so popular. He wants you to enjoy the movements and not think that it’s too much work to lose the weight.
Calypso, I’ve also noticed that shorts fashion trends this year are so reminiscent of the ones he used to wear in the 80s.
Katharina, whatever happened to the “fun” trend?
Today’s focus is now more of providing us a visual motivation. The market usually moves to what the masses wants to see, hence, “I can be like her if I worked hard at it”.
There’s definitely nothing wrong with it. It’s just a matter of what motivates us to lose weight.
He always did the fun approach for sure, yes. It gets real boring (thus subject to resentment) if there isn’t that element of fun in an exercise program.
I think the fun trend doesn’t make nearly the money that the seriously painful trend does.
The fun approach doesn’t require special equipment, doesn’t stimulate the sales of diet aids, and doesn’t build gym membership!
Calypso, I wonder why we really haven’t heard from him lately.
Katharina, you might have to dust off your VCR also. I know mine hasn’t been used in ages.
Oh it would definitely need a serious dusting off, that’s for sure! I really should check into buying some aerobic workouts on DVD.
I bet Richard’s DVD’s aren’t that expensive. They probably cost less than movies on DVD.
SageMother, LOL! If it doesn’t cost much, it doesn’t get as much hype.
Because after all, everyone knows that if it doesn’t cost much…. it might not work
My sister buys into that crap and her house is just a testament that you shouldn’t get caught up with the fitness hype.
SageMother, I’m not even sure if he even makes any new ones anymore.
