I do drink energy drinks on occasion but I just am not to convinced on how safe or healthy they are for you?
I don’t have a problem with health drinks per se, but I can’t do the so called “energy drinks” if they have caffeine.
As for the safety… I’m not really convinced about that myself too much, unfortunately, but we know the ingredients in most soft drinks are bad for us, too, for that matter.
Energy drinks come in handy, but I wish they were packaged differently or came in powdered form.
I’ll be honest and say I haven’t tried any energy drinks yet, not because I worry about their safety but because I’m very addicted to my Diet Cokes during work hours. Isn’t that a terrible excuse?
Don’t most of the energy drinks have a lot of caffeine in them? I don’t know for sure or anything if they do? Has anyone seen the new Snickers candy bar that has caffeine in it?
It is best to stick with energy drinks that use vitamin to give you a boost. B vitamins boost the energy without leaving you all wrung out afterwards.
Snickers candy bar with caffeine?! You’re serious? (Actually I know you are, or you wouldn’t have asked!
) No, I haven’t heard of that, but that seems to be way over the top.
Isn’t that like handing a candy-loving kid a cup of coffee?!
I always try to remember to look for the nutrients when I try any new kind of drink. Many of them offer not much more than empty calories.
I haven’t tried any of the ‘energy drinks’ either. I figure I get enough caffeine through my 6 or 7 cups of tea a day.
Tater03,
There are different types of energy drinks so if you are interested in drinking them, you should check out the label on it first.
For example, Gatorade is great if you are planning on playing basketball or running a relay.
There are other energy drinks that have different focuses that are good for temporary alertness and increasing stamina.
All in all, they really are not harmful unless you are allergic to a specific ingredient.
I didn’t realize that Gatorade would be considered an energy drink… I really *do* learn something every day.
I try to keep some on hand during summer for replacing things lost when one is outside in the heat too long or often. It’s also great for avoiding or pulling out of dehydration.
Katharina,
I thought the caffeine in Snickers Bars came from the chocolate, so the caffeine has always been there. Has the company started adding more caffeine?
They would great to calm down an ADHD kid as caffeine doesn’t act as a stimulus for them until after puberty!
LOL
Maybe Tater will explain what she meant, but since Snickers was singled out (considering all candy bars have chocolate with that same amount of caffeine) I assume it’s a Snickers with added caffeine. Tater?
Ooops, nope I just found this online… quote “Mars announced Wednesday that it is launching a new Snickers chocolate bar that contains 60 milligrams of caffeine.” unquote.
It appears to have been announced early this year.
That said, I’d really like to know what they were thinking. Aren’t candy bars bad enough for children with the caffeine the chocolate already contains?
What could possibly be the drive behind ADDING more caffeine? If they’re going for the adult market, how are they going to keep that candy bar from children?
SageMother, there are a lot of drinks out there that are available in powder form. You can mix it with regular water whenever you need it.
Wow,could you imagine a kid eating one of the snickers with added caffeine? My little ones would be wired for days!
Yes, but not just that… there are health concerns about children and caffeine that go far beyond the being wired, I think… sugar does that, too, but caffeine seems so much more dangerous.
But….
Caffeine doesn’t really react in children the way it does in people during or after puberty.
Interesting thing I learned from a mother with a child that had a slight touch of ADHD. She would give him some coffee every morning before school. He would do very well on those days.
Tater03, if you are on a diet, what you really need to worry the most is calories.
Energy drinks have a ton of them.
SageMother, I actually saw vitamin water with B+ Vitamins over the weekend.
I have decided that I am going to be drinking my vitamins. It is much more enjoyable this way than popping a vitamin in the morning. Don’t you think?
Katharina, I’m not sure about the caffeine content. Couldn’t find any info on it…. but just in case you are a big snickers fan, here is the content:

Diva, have you found any vitamin water that has the RDA like a multi vitamin does? If so, could you share the brand?
Maybe I haven’t looked hard enough, but I’ve only seen those with extra vitamins of certain kinds and not all of them.
Very true about energy drinks and calories… I prefer getting energy in other ways but that’s just personal preference.
debrajean, LOL!
Some of these designer energy drinks actually have really cool health enhancing stuff and gets you hooked up with some fantastic health benefits.
And coffee can’t certainly do the same.
Katharina, the question should be then – is that more or less than it used to be?
And how much of the content of the snickers bar is caffeine? Does anybody know?
Katharina, that day will NEVER come that I’d reach for snickers bar instead of my coffee….
gawd. you know many calories that bar has?
Katharina, you should actually try the new Boost – http://www.boost.com/Products/ourproducts_boostdrink.aspx.
It has BOOST is a great-tasting nutritional supplement that you can enjoy with a meal and as a healthy between-meal snack. It also provides all the nutrients you need should you miss a meal. One serving of BOOST gives you:
26 vitamins and minerals, with carbohydrates and protein for energy, a healthier alternative than many caffeine beverages.
Antioxidants that may help protect you from free radicals, which are molecules that can destroy healthy cells.
Vitamin E may help protect against heart disease, asthma, arthritis, and also protect your heart, eyes and lungs.
Vitamin C that may help prevent colds and flu, keep your gums strong and healthy, and increase your resistance to heart disease and cancer.
Calcium to help maintain strong, healthy bones and teeth. Calcium also functions in the regulation of the heartbeat and helps with blood functions, such as the clotting of blood. With as much calcium as an 8-ounce glass of milk, BOOST is lactose free.
Low in saturated fat (just 4 grams total fat, 5 milligrams cholesterol per serving).
As a part of a diet low in sodium, may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
Katharina, what is your recipe for getting your daily energy dose.
