Consumer research shows that more and more Americans are eating on the go. As a result, convenient healthy snack options continue to be important. Sales of granola bars, trail mixes and the like are up as the trend in snacking turns healthier. Portion conscious packs have also grown in popularity as people look for ways to satisfy their snacking needs without having to worry about how many calories they’re consuming.
“Whether you’re an athlete looking for a quick nutritious boost or a parent seeking a healthy snack for the kids, our smaller bar is a tasty and satisfying snack that multitasks,” said Patrick Muldoon, chief executive officer of Forward Foods, which owns Detour (http://detourbar.com).
Already a top-seller, the Caramel Peanut bar with its candy bar taste is now available in a handy 20 gram snack size version. Like its larger counterparts, the snack bar is made with whey protein, the highest quality protein available. With three grams of sugar and no trans fats, the smaller bar is a smart snack for everyone.
“The snack size bar is a great way for people to discover Detour,” said Muldoon. “It is the perfect size to satisfy your energy needs, but be warned, it tastes so delicious your taste buds are going to demand more. Luckily, that same award-winning taste is available in our larger bars, too.”
The snack size bars are available at GNC retailers or online at http://detourbar.com. Distribution is expected to be broadened in the coming months.

Thanks for dropping by!
I think this might be the midmorning snack I need as a break from some of my usual snacks.
I wonder if this can be used as a meal replacement?
This sounds great. I eat a lot of my meals in the car as I’m driving from one client to another. And a nice, healthy snack bar is certainly better for me than a Big Mac!
These do sound good. I think that these would be something that my oldest son would really like and they would be good for him at the same time.
Caramel Peanut Bar… Yum! Actually I’ll be going near GNC on the weekend and maybe I’ll remember to pop in there to check these out.
I usually don’t like the calorie count of the full size energy/protein bars, so this sounds perfect.
SageMother, most likely. I’m sure they also carry a range of meal replacement products.
Calypso, that’s for sure!
BTW, I started to spice up my diet plan because I was reaching a plateau and decided to eliminate red meat from my diet. So a Big Mac, no matter how hungry I am will not be an option!
Diva, you mentioned red meat… does that mean that you’ll still eat things like chicken and the white meats, or will you eventually cut out all meat?
Tater03, it’s a great idea to have these snack around for your kids. At least if they were going to develop a snacking habit, it might as well be for healthy, nutritious food.
Katharina, if you don’t have a GNC card, it might be worth getting because it does give you long term discounts when you shop there.
Katharina, I have dropped red meat, unless of course I happen to have dinner at my in-laws house because that’s all they serve there.
I still eat white meat - chicken, fish, turkey. I had my regular check up and blood test recently and my iron is really low so now I have to pick myself up a supplement or risk having iron deficiencies.
I just figured out that I have developed a sensitivity to nuts. No more peanut butter, almonds, and other nut based snacks that I love.
Do these protein bars have nuts?
SageMother, that’s too bad. I also love nuts, and it’s like trying to tell me to stay away from chocolate….
Protein bars come with different types of ingredients, but I’m sure you can find one that doesn’t have nuts in it.
I like a lot of the 100 calorie snack packs that are out these days. They are not “diet” foods with sweetners or anything “light” in them, they are the real thing, only properly portioned so that you don’t get carried away.
There’s some good news on my “nut front”.
I went to the immunologist and so far my blood tests show a sensitivity to almonds, but no reaction to peanuts yet.
Woo-hoo!
I went into our local GNC and didn’t see these. I was going to ask but there was a line so I am not to sure if they were just out or what.
SageMother, I’ve been contemplating doing that also. Does it cost you a lot of money to see an immunologist?
Tater03, I have the same problem also. I think you can buy it directly from their website if you don’t find it at your local store.
trick-r-treat, 100 calorie packs are my sinful indulgence.
My new diet involves strict calorie counting. Once a day at 2:30PM, I get to eat my 100 calorie indulgence and I just love it!
I’m not really cutting out the foods that I like to eat. I’m just more conscious about how many calories come with each bite.
