I don’t think I’d be starting off w/40 or 50 lb weights, but I can see how this would work. This is how I work my abs on a bench. Steep, then less so at the end of my reps. It does seem to work better.
Debrajean, I think for women it needs to be revised just a little bit.
I’d hate to have the muscles that a 40lb weight will add to my body….
I usually work with about 5 – 15lb weights.
Me too, diva. I find 6 to 8 lb weights are a good workout for me. I can do a higher amount of reps with the small weights and not feel too achy the next morning.
I have 3-pounders (not good for much of anything except walking on the treadmill) and 10-pounders. I really need to buy some 5′s but keep forgetting to do that.
Debrajean, I also find that starting out with a heavier weight like 10lbs for the first reps and then going to a lesser weight like 5 lbs for the next set is great in shaping the muscles.
Katharina, I also think 10s are too heavy for me to have if I am planning on doing a lot of reps during my workout.
I find that 5s are a good balance.
